How to build a trap vault in Pet Heist
Your vault is where your pets live and earn coins, and other players raid it while you are away. This guide explains every trap and guard in the Pet Heist vault builder, what each one costs, the limits, and the layout ideas that actually stop thieves.

How the builder works
Open My Vault from the home screen. The vault is a grid seen from above. Tap the floor to build a wall, tap a wall to clear it, and pick traps and guards from the tray at the bottom. A dotted line shows the path a raider is expected to take from the entrance to your pets, which makes it easy to see where to put pressure.
Every item costs build points from your build budget. The budget starts at 250 and grows by 50 for every 100 trophies, up to 1,000. The Vault workshop upgrade adds 50 more per tier, three tiers in total. If you do not want to start from an empty grid, the Layouts sheet offers eleven hand-made starter layouts, and the dice button rolls a random one.
Every trap and guard
| Item | Cost | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Wall | 1 | Blocks movement and vision. Cheap, so use plenty. |
| Steel wall | 6 | A wall the drill gadget cannot break. |
| Door | 5 | Opens by itself when the thief (or a chasing dog) comes close. Splits the vault into rooms. |
| Locked door | 25 | The thief has to win the lock-picking mini-game, and a missed pin makes noise. |
| Laser | 20 | Blinks on and off. Touching an active beam sets off the alarm. |
| Camera or owl | 30 | Sweeps a cone of vision. Smoke blocks it. |
| Guard dog | 45 | Patrols, hears running footsteps and chases after the alarm. Touching it ends the raid. |
| Robot vacuum | 35 | Drives a fixed loop with a short sensor. It never catches anyone, but a bump sets off the alarm and every bump during the alarm takes 3 seconds off the escape timer. Unlocks at thief level 6. |
| Guard cat | 40 | Naps and wakes up on noise. Faster than a dog, with shorter sight and sharper hearing. Unlocks at level 9. |
| Pressure plate | 10 per cell | Sets off the alarm when someone runs over it. Sneaking over it is safe. |
| Prop | 2 | Crates, plants, barrels, columns and chests. Solid; crates, barrels and columns also block vision. |
| Pedestal, coins | 0 | Where your pets stand, and coin piles thieves can grab. |
Limits: up to 8 doors, 8 lasers, 6 cameras, 4 guards, 8 pressure plates, 6 pedestals, 8 steel walls and 20 coin piles (300 coins in total). The vault can be 7 to 24 cells across.

Layout tips that work
1. Make the thief slow down, then punish slowness
Sneaking is silent but slow. Pressure plates force a thief to sneak; a camera or laser right after the plates catches anyone who sneaks too long in its cone. A plate corridor followed by a sweeping camera is one of the cheapest strong combos.
2. Put guards on the way out
A thief carrying a pet squeaks now and then, and dogs hear it. Guards placed between the pedestals and the exit are more dangerous than guards at the entrance, because the thief has to pass them while noisy.
3. Combine timing traps
One laser is easy to time. Two lasers with different rhythms in the same corridor, or a laser in front of a locked door, make the thief wait in a spot you can cover with a camera.
4. Use steel where a drill would skip your maze
The drill gadget breaks one inner wall. If a single wall is all that separates the entrance from your pets, make it steel.
5. Spend on locks around the pets
A locked door costs 25, and each missed pin makes a noise guards hear up to 6 metres away. Place a locked door where a guard dog patrols close by and every mistake gets loud.
Publish, test and improve
Before a vault goes live you must beat it yourself with Test run. This rule keeps every vault fair: no sealed rooms, no impossible paths. After that real players raid it. Watch the replays of each raid to see where thieves got through, and fix that spot.
You can keep three named vault slots (for example, a safe one and an experimental one) and switch which one is active. The builder keeps your last ten saved versions with Restore, and an Undo for 30 seconds after big changes.
What protects you besides traps
- Shield: after a robbery your pets are protected for 4 hours (8 hours from Gold league up, plus 4 more with the Thief Pass).
- Daily cap: you cannot lose more than 3 pets in one day, and your last pet never leaves.
- Insurance: half the coins a thief took come back the next morning, free.
- Revenge: for 24 hours you can raid the thief back for bonus coins and trophies, or ask friends and the revenge squad for help.
