A steal-a-pet game where you also have to guard your own

Updated

In Pet Heist you steal pets from other players' vaults, and they try to steal them back. It is a free stealth game for Android and the browser, built around one loop: sneak in, grab a pet, get out, then protect what you took.

How stealing a pet works

Every vault in Pet Heist has one or more pedestals with pets on them. In the story campaign the vaults belong to characters like Countess Spotless; in the Raid mode they belong to real players who built them. Your thief starts at the entrance, and the pet is somewhere behind walls, doors, guards and traps.

To steal it you have to reach the pedestal without being caught. Guard dogs and guard cats patrol and listen for footsteps. Cameras and owls sweep a cone of vision. Lasers switch on and off, and pressure plates trigger when you run over them. Sneaking is silent, so the core skill is knowing when to slow down and when to sprint. Once you pick the pet up, it squeaks now and then, which guards can hear, so the way out is often harder than the way in.

If you trip the alarm the raid is not over. A 25-second escape timer starts, every guard comes running, and you can still make it out with the loot if you are quick. A raid with no alarm at all earns the third star.

What happens to the pet you steal

A stolen pet goes into your collection. Put it on a pedestal in your own vault and it earns coins every hour: 4 an hour for a Common pet, 10 for Rare, 20 for Epic and 40 for Legendary, more as you level it up. The catch is that pets on display can be stolen from you, while pets resting in the nest are safe but earn nothing. Deciding which pets to show and which to hide is the strategy layer of the game.

For 24 hours after a theft the pet is still "unsettled", and the previous owner can take it back with a revenge raid. Friends can help too: a rescue link or an SOS call lets other players raid the thief and send the pet home.

Fair rules, so it does not feel bad to lose

Getting robbed is part of the game, but Pet Heist has guard rails so it never wipes you out:

Build a vault nobody can rob

The defense side is a small level editor. You get a build budget and spend it on walls, doors, locked doors, lasers, cameras, owls, guard dogs, guard cats, robot vacuums and pressure plates. Before your vault goes live you have to beat it once yourself, which keeps every vault fair: there are no impossible rooms. The trap vault guide covers costs, limits and layouts that work.

How it differs from other steal-a-pet games

Many games with "steal a pet" in the name are idle or simulator games, where a pet changes owner when you press a button or wait out a timer. Pet Heist is a real stealth game. You steer the thief yourself, read guard routes, time lasers, pick locks with a timing mini-game and decide whether to risk a sprint. Every vault is a hand-made or player-made level rather than a random number. The game is free, plays in short sessions, and runs both as an Android app and in a browser tab, so you can try it in a few seconds without installing anything.

Start stealing

The first raids are training vaults that teach moving, sneaking and lock picking. After that the campaign opens: 34 vaults in six chapters, each with a boss. Read the beginner's guide for the first hour, the pet rarity guide to learn what each rarity is worth, and the tips page for quick answers.
